For the 2020 Olympics a new rowing course will be constructed in Tokyo Bay. The Sea Forest Waterway will be situated not far from Haneda Airport, only 15 minutes from the proposed site of the Olympic Village. This will become a permanent course based on FISA standards. The length will be about 2700m, include 8 lanes for racing, and 4 lanes for practice and return.
Japan has been host of the World Rowing Championships once. In 2005 the World Championships were held at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course in the city of Gifu.
